<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><span style="color: blue;">CASINO 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY </span><u><span style="color: red;">AUCTION</span></u></span></h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Since 2000 I have tried making our family parties as fun as possible. Even though I loved attending parties I always seemed to be bored with the same ol' games. Well, until someone begins inventing new games...I had to deal with it. HOWEVER...by adding a fun new twist to some old party games I was able to make our parties genuinely fun once again. Here is how I did it.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Back in 2011, for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary Party I had a Casino Themed party, instead of the Baby Shower Paper Bucks (detailed below in Baby Shower AUCTION), I purchased a good amount of Poker chips. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As each guest arrived, they each got a small bag with 30 chips to play with, period! Win or lose. (Not everyone is a winner in a Casino)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We set up casino type games, i.e., Black Jack, Roulette, and Craps and our guests played like they would in a Casino... winning "game chips". </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Since, not everyone has good luck or plays well at the casino table games, I also placed decks of cards on the tables for those who wanted to play one on one, slowly winning chips from other guests. And, we set up a Keno style Bingo game. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What I did differently from the Baby Shower AUCTION (below) was AUCTION OFF PRIZES DURING THE PARTY. I purchased prizes months before that actual party in order to keep costs down and to find great deals on great items. Our main prize was a Kindle Fire and Keurig Coffee Machine. These were the prizes that everyone wanted, so, in order to lessen the quantity of potential winners for these prizes, I AUCTIONED off bottles of Wine, a Coach wallet, Gift Certificates and Lottery Scratchers <b>during</b> the party. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of my guests won a COACH WALLET FOR 30 POKER CHIPS!! What a steal. All because the other guests were trying to save up till the end. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Our casino games went on for about 2 hours and when we finally shut them down...people were actually disappointed and plead for more time. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When the AUCTION began I started seeing guests pull their poker chips together in order to help one person win. I thought to myself that this would cause a ruckus, however, everyone began doing it. (So it is up to you if you want to try and stipulate no sharing chips??, good luck on that). </span></div>

<div>
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Back in 2002 when my daughter was ready for her baby shower...the concept of having a baby shower AUCTION happened as I reminisced about the old Antique Auctions I attended at a place called McCoys. The adrenaline of bidding was what kept me going back for more!!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is how I began. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1. Instead of purchasing a bunch of little game prizes, I purchased a few larger items. For my daughter's baby shower I purchased a stick Ipod for about $70.00.. yes it was years ago. I also purchased large jars of Yankee candles on Ebay.. so I did not pay full price for them. I purchased a Coach makeup bag, also on Ebay for about $30.00, again not paying full price for it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2. I printed up "Baby Shower Bucks". Enough to give every guest at least one when they arrive. This is when I explained to them how the event would take place. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">a. You get an initial payment of Baby Shower Bucks 1 or 2 is good enough just for showing up. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">b. For every party game played (i.e., Baby Shower Bingo, or Ice Cube Baby Birth) there would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner. 1st place would get, let's say a $15.00 baby shower buck, 2nd place would get $10.00 and 3rd place would get $5.00. MY GUESTS WOULD NOT GET A "PRIZE" FOR WINNING... they would get baby shower bucks instead.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">c. At the end of the baby shower (Wedding Shower, Birthday, etc) there would be an AUCTION FOR THE PRIZES!! (I.e., the Yankee candles, moving your way up to the biggest prize.. the IPod.) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One by one lift up a PRIZE and ask who would be willing to spend their baby shower bucks for that gift...the highest bidder wins the prize! The results are HILARIOUS!!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My guests were so EXCITED they began screaming out the amount of baby shower bucks they had. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">A little bio time: Years ago I owned my own Crafter's Mall called <i>Country Crafters</i>. It was at the peak of the Country Folk Art era where I learned to design, cut, and paint wooden art. I was first published as a Provo Crafts Artist (Utah) with my first book; "<i>All Keyed Up"</i> (below) and second book; "Calendars", then acquired a publication through Suzanne McNeill (Texas) with<i> KNOB-ITS.</i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><i>KNOB-ITS</i> was my third and most profitable published book. It reached all over the world, especially Singapore in which I cut, and painted over 4,000 of these drawer pulls for Derek Khaw. I was featured in Country Sampler and Country Folk Art magazines as well as running my own mail order business. This idea of drawer pulls hit Target, and other retail stores in ceramic form. I just found my books on Amazon and Ebay for discounted prices :( and as it brought back many wonderful memories, I thought I would share.</span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;"> </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">I recently found an old <i>classic</i> photo of a <span style="color: #3d85c6;">Valentine's project</span> my preschool class did about 15 years ago. The children made re-purposed <span style="color: #0b5394;">Levi </span><span style="color: #cc0000;"><i>Pockets Of Love</i></span> as gifts for their mothers. We filled the <i><span style="color: red;">Pockets of Love</span></i> with candy kisses, a photo of themselves and a button heart brooch pinned to the front of them. I say <i>classic </i>because when I found the old photo...I <i><span style="color: #cc0000;">loved them all over again</span></i>. Here is the idea, let's see how you can elaborate upon it :) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Skies the limit with the decorative pieces you can glue onto your pocket. <span style="color: red;">Buttons</span>, silk flowers, <span style="color: #6aa84f;">lace</span>, ribbon, <span style="color: #b45f06;">sequin,</span> etc. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">I found that <span style="color: #674ea7;">Tacky Glue</span> worked the best:) </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">IN THE FARM YARD</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">An Interactive Bulletin Board</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Although the photo speaks for itself, I would like to say that this was one of our classroom's most fun and successful boards to date. The children were involved, eager to participate and 'sad' when the farm had to come down. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Trying to give the farm a realistic view, I crinkled the brown paper and folded it to make 'field rows' for planting our bean crops. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">The first set of 'green' mountains (background) were flat and smooth, the second row of 'green' mountains (forefront) were also crinkled to give some dimension and depth. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">The children's artwork then went up. The cows were drawn, and painted by the children. The pigs were part of a 'gluing' project...</span></div>

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><i>This year I was given the task of decorating my family's home for Christmas and to make it as memorable as possible for the kids and adults alike. So, "what a perfect time to bring out the Candy Shoppe!" I have purchased pounds of candy, decorations, and now am working on the displays. Well, I purchased bags of lollipops and could not figure out how to display them without having to purchase a ready made stand. The cheapest one I found was $30.00 with s/h charges. I then went to the hardware store and priced what I needed to make my own, and that came out to about $20.00ish. Ugg! </i></span></div>

(Note: I am using my Oodles of Noodles pieces to create this stand but would purchase a new noodle to get precise noodle measurement) I purchased the swimming noodles at the Dollar Tree for :) ... a dollar. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Materials are simple. The borders, stapler, plaster of paris, paint, ribbon and silk leaves. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Fold the border in half and staple it about 1/2 inch from the folded end. Then bring the unstapled ends around the top and down to make the point of the heart. Staple the two ends when you reach the desired size of heart to make your hand mold. You can ask the child to insert his hand into the center of the heart and adjust before stapling. Some hearts will be smaller than others. </span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;"><b><i>IMPROV' STORY IDEA</i></b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">A few years ago I went with a friend to the San Jose Improv Theater to see a particular comedian. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">It was not so much the man's jokes I was impressed with, but rather, his </span><i style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: xx-large;">improvisational skills</i><span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">. How the audience could throw out a comment, and the man's comeback lines were perfectly hilarious. As I sat there (yes, at that moment in the theater) I thought of my preschool children. You might ask, <i>"Where is the connection? :) </i>Well, my thought bubble read, "<i>I wonder if I prompted the children with a story line,</i> "Once upon a time..<i>", WHAT would their response be</i>??" The first time I did this, I was 10x more impressed with the children than those improvisational skills I had recently seen. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">First, I began a process of teaching the children the meaning of a book's "Author" and a book's "Illustrator" and the process of writing a book, etc. When I felt there was some comprehension...I then informed the children that THEY were going to write a storybook for our classroom. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">During group time, I took several sheets of paper and a marker, then prompted the children..."<b>Once upon a time</b>". There was silence for a few seconds until one child rang out..."<i>There was a yellow car!</i>", then a second child rang out.."<i>It was a race car!!</i>"...then I heard, "<i>It had green tires</i>... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">You have to write fast to keep up after that! Yes, you will get contradictions such as "It had green tires", then a line that said, "It had pink tires"...these are teachable moments when you could stop the children and ask them to think, "Do cars have different color tires?" or take a tally vote, "How many would like the car to have different colored tires?" You will find that the children will brainstorm the issue. My goal was to get every child involved in the process, so, if I noticed one or two quiet children, I would stop the discussion and ask them a direct question, "What do you think should come next?" Most of the time they are eager to respond. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">When all the words and story line were in order, I "illustrated" the book using online clip art from my home computer. (<b>For older children:</b> You can assign a portion of the story line for them to color or draw the illustrations.) Now, add the most important <i>AUTHORS PAGE, i</i>t is very important to add <i>every</i> child's name that was present. Finally, I inserted the pages into sheet protectors and stapled a construction paper cover.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Here is the children's original story...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><i><b>(2 and 3 years old children)</b></i></span></div>

<span style="color: #4c1130; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">During a month long curriculum for community workers, we explored the various jobs that people have when they grow up. I added an element of dramatic play for each unit with props and songs. It was easy to prepare for doctors, construction workers, etc. but when one child said a <i>cook working at a hamburger stand, it took me a moment</i>. Well, this is what I came up with..."it was actually one of the children's most favorite activities that month, and wanted to do it again!"</span></div>

<span style="color: #4c1130; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">I have always made it a practice to save ALL THE CONSTRUCTION PAPER SCRAPS! They have money saving purposes. <span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: #660000;">When I first started teaching preschool 21 years ago, I LOVED prep week. It was a time of anticipation and excitement of what the</span> <span style="color: #660000;">new school year would bring. New children's faces, new parents and families all going through the <i>same</i> milestones as the children and parents the year before. Even though the new parents had not seen the decor and bulletins from the previous year, I was always compelled to give something new. Why? <strike>(to challenge myself :) </strike>Because, one thing that will never change... "photos"... parents <i>needing</i> that picture of their child's first day of school : ) </span></span></div>

<span style="color: #660000; font-size: large;">When I plan, prep and assemble my bulletin boards throughout the year, I always keep in mind a<i> photo op wall</i>. Something big and vibrant that will look good in a photo. </span></div>

<span style="color: #660000; font-size: large;">So, as I pull out pictures of bulletin boards, ideas, and activities from past and present years, I will post to share, hoping that a single picture can create in you a new idea. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-size: large;">Because I wanted a 3-D Tree, I cut the branches approx. 6-8 inches wide and the trunk about 6-8 inches <i><b>wider</b></i> than the space designated for the trunk. Once I had the tree shape cut out, I crinkled the whole tree carefully to not tear or rip my tree. The crinkling of the tree is to create a random wood texture, with no need to draw lines or paint to obtain texture. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-size: large;">Let's say, if you had a 12 in. space on the wall to staple the base of the tree trunk to, you should cut your tree trunk 18 to 20 inches wide, or larger. You decide how wide and tall your tree will be. Then staple one side of the trunk to the wall, push the other end of the trunk towards the center of the trunk causing the tree trunk to bubble up in the center. This is what creates the </span><span style="color: #660000; font-size: large;">3-D effect. </span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Recycled Juice or Milk Carton</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Throw away's, no more!! You will be amazed at what you can create with these recycled juice/milk cartons. They can be art'zy, educational and while saving money on art supplies, you are also saving the environment by keeping "recyclables" out of the landfills. Let me show you just one idea I have used in my preschool classroom over the years.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTUsqloQGXkB6qJKhrNQ7DR71A_75qiV0LjDWsuEJC_PZCLq-xgmR4RomZSELgQRMaImJSwzgO2-CGTaUvZJKkcfOW_gerIsOa6oAzP3Cj9kwdllLcJ9bI85vHoHuhKVYKB3lxs0CTDIbK/s1600/Milk+Carton+Grass+House+1.5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTUsqloQGXkB6qJKhrNQ7DR71A_75qiV0LjDWsuEJC_PZCLq-xgmR4RomZSELgQRMaImJSwzgO2-CGTaUvZJKkcfOW_gerIsOa6oAzP3Cj9kwdllLcJ9bI85vHoHuhKVYKB3lxs0CTDIbK/s320/Milk+Carton+Grass+House+1.5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
MATERIALS NEEDED: 1) 1/2 gallon size juice or milk carton. 2) Grass seed. Any kind will do for this project. 3)Planting dirt. You can get a large bag very cheap at any home supply store.4) (Optional) Colored masking tape. I personally used the colored masking tape just to have a cohesive look to the front of the houses, but, it can also act as a reinforcement to the planting box when you insert the dirt and begin watering. 5) Scraps of construction paper for paper houses. 6) (Recommended) Contact paper or lamination for the finished paper houses. This will protect the paper from water damage while you are watering the grass. 7) Tacky glue 8) Scissors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After cutting out the house form from the juice carton, mask the "grass box" at the bottom of house cut out. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8aj7wkDpr4cEA5Id1dd3H_AUPjnvPOALFA3j-pjO-jz_LXpqq4PIZwVOb-yb6AOjPMKQ8pq8w1AW7jeRcgyK7Bh3lmXrTz2gENaf-A3FOHPbUWUs_eRCDPtNTxWHFx4jkNjqyUtFZ-2G4/s1600/Milk+Carton+Grass+House+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8aj7wkDpr4cEA5Id1dd3H_AUPjnvPOALFA3j-pjO-jz_LXpqq4PIZwVOb-yb6AOjPMKQ8pq8w1AW7jeRcgyK7Bh3lmXrTz2gENaf-A3FOHPbUWUs_eRCDPtNTxWHFx4jkNjqyUtFZ-2G4/s320/Milk+Carton+Grass+House+3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Depending upon the ages of your 'little carpenters', you can either allow them to cut and create their own houses or you can have prefabricated homes for them to assemble themselves using glue and their imagination.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPPxs5fyay7j2AFCZ-IYzlc4JVwmVd0p_3xtFsx0oxJlFok8knFMkjADLmDuGMSTAJO7uaAX6dxw5TpVDuybdA0SfL9UF8wfIjJx-atsnelzevEi0QJnC-nmOwyKZzaQOkCdLGSqwALEJy/s1600/Milk+Carton+Grass+House+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPPxs5fyay7j2AFCZ-IYzlc4JVwmVd0p_3xtFsx0oxJlFok8knFMkjADLmDuGMSTAJO7uaAX6dxw5TpVDuybdA0SfL9UF8wfIjJx-atsnelzevEi0QJnC-nmOwyKZzaQOkCdLGSqwALEJy/s320/Milk+Carton+Grass+House+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once the home is assembled you should either laminate the paper houses or use contact paper to protect the paper from water damage. After laminating, you will tacky glue the paper houses to the carton directly above the planting box. </div>

TOO CUTE!!!! Our preschool neighborhood:) Let's get planting!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Allow the children to insert dirt, seeds and a small cup of water into the planting box in front of their homes:) It can take up to 4-5 days to begin seeing results, but once the grass is in full bloom you can allow the children to take scissors and give their lawns a nice little "mow" (trim.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
CHILDREN AND PARENTS LOVE THIS PROJECT ALIKE!!! </div>
